Linux Servers Home Networking And Hobbies

because yeah. Um what I have been up to lately, um, learning more Linux, learning Docker, um, made a got a bought a basically a desktop for a server. Oh and put a VM on it with Proxmox. Um, made a Linux server with that. And I've just been within Linux, kind of just learning bash commands and learning how to do everything from the terminal. But I still have like I still have like a desktop and everything, but I'm just doing everything in the terminal just because you're able to do that and I'm learning from that. And what I'm doing is kind of just like I said some weeks ago, was building this whole infrastructure. So, you know, I have everything server-wise, you know, I can add storage to it if I need to, which actually I really need to. Um, add more RAM and stuff like that so I can have multiple VM um VMs running. Uh, been buying DVDs of uh animes from Edward McKay's. Well, it's called McKay's now. Um, I've been picking up stuff that's like stuff I've never heard of. Um picked up Wolfenstein on Xbox because I wanted this. Uh Code Gias got both of those. Tokyo Ghoul got season two and season first season.

Yeah, but they had two of them. Maybe somebody might be able to tell me more about these. But um, yeah, they look cool. They're not Blu-rays, um, but they had a lot of the studio uh Ghibli stuff on Blu-ray and stuff, but it ri it I might as well just buy like it new because the pricing on that still wasn't anything that was like crazy. And I also got the Death Note, I think this is like the Black Edition or Black box set or whatever. Um, and that's uh volume two box set. But yeah, been doing that. Um I pulled some uh bought some Cat 6, went underneath the house in the crawl space, pulled cable up, hooked up the AP, bought a new uh bought a PoE switch because I did not want to use a uh PoE injector. I know some people love PoE injectors just because you're able to troubleshoot if something goes wrong, like you have one point here and one point here. I rather have the PoE so I don't have to worry about plugging that shit in, you know, somewhere else and all that crap. So got the PoE switch, that's working fine. I have my uh what is it, Micro Microtech or Mirotech router that's doing well. Still working with router OS, learning that. And uh yeah, that's about it. Oh, and I got a couch. Um, yeah. I went back home uh for about a week, picked up the couch from my father and stepmother, and you know, got to see family and stuff like that. Um, but yeah, it's been cool. Bird feeders been bird feeding, got the poles going, got the uh hummingbird feeders going. I'm done. Uh I am done with the bird feed right now. I'm not gonna start back up until the fall, so I can let them fend for themselves. The only thing, the only feeder that I'm gonna keep consistent is the hummingbird feeder. Hummingbirds are probably gonna be gone by like maybe September, October. So, you know, and they go a little bit. I read that they go to like Mexico and like Costa Rica. Like that's where they migrate to. Yeah. Right? I was like, oh shit. So um I'm gonna keep filling that up so they always have something. But um the best time to fill up those bird feeders to me is during the winter. Like, that's the best because it's just it's it's cold and you just see birds coming. It's beautiful. It's great. Um, but yeah, that's what I've been up to. Uh Lexi, what have you been up to?

Surgery Recovery What No One Mentions

I had surgery. Well, before we even get there, let's see. Um my Tesla was in the shot because a deer hit me. Uh yeah, not a lot of people do. I didn't tell a lot of people. Um but it's back. Um got back last Thursday, so that was good. Um, kudos to State Farm. It was a simple ass process, wasn't really a lot to it. Um let's see, that same week I had my surgery. Um, if you guys don't know, I had a massiopexy and an upper body lift, which is aka upper back lift. Um, and then I had my boobs basically lifted. So no more granny titties. Okay. Um that um that was uh a journey, I'll say the least. Uh I also went to go see J. Cole uh Saturday. Um that was amazing because then we were super hella close to the stage. Um yes, it was in Atlanta um night two, so that was pretty good. Um yes, I did buy merch. Um for that my twin came down from New York. Shout out to my twin. Um, he just left this morning. He made it back to New York safely. Um yeah, the Karen wins on Sunday. Oh, nice. Yeah, I started back work Monday. Yeah. And now we're here. Now we're here.

So what so with the with the surgery itself and everything like that, I guess how are you feeling like getting closer to the days? Were you freaking the fuck out for real?

So that whole week for me was stressful dealing with the car and dealing with some other medical stuff that was going on right around the same time. Um, so I wasn't freaking out. The only time I was like really freaking out was like the night before and actually being in like the OR waiting room. Uh that's when I was like freaking the fuck out. It was just more like the the thing for me was like, I've had surgeries before. Yeah, but I've never been under anesthesia for like six hours or more, and my surgery was scheduled for six hours. I was like, oh god, I hope nothing goes wrong. But everything was good. Um, they started my surgery at like 10. I was out before actually early. I think they called my like pickup and purse who cared for me for like a week, uh, like two, like two o'clock. And I was to be down at like three, so it was pretty swift and everything. I don't even remember being in the recovery room. I don't remember anything. All I I don't even know who put clothes on me. All I remember is that there's a little side entrance. I remember getting into like the Audi that I was renting at the time while my car was in the shop, getting in the passenger seat. Yeah. And then I just remember getting to my house and going to sit in my recliner. And that was it for the day. Like, I remember texting, I remember telling him I was like, hey, text my dad, text my twin, text my best friend. And then I was out, like in and out all day. Um, and so like I had a lot of like restrictions. Like I can't, I still can't lift anything over five pounds. I still can't do strenuous exercise. Like my heart rate is not supposed to get over like a hundred beats per minute. Um, there's like special washes and all kinds of stuff. Like you have to get special kind of massages. It's it's a lot that they don't tell you before going into it. Yeah. That you have to kind of figure out going out.

So how how ahead of time did you plan to do this? Like, how far out did you plan this?

So I was having I had my consultation for everything in January. So I planned it out six months in advance, really. Um, because I I I didn't really have a reason, like, cause I could have paid for it then and done it then, but it was more for me, like kind of like six years ago to the day I had a previous surgery where my left lung collapsed and I almost died and had a like thing. I was like, hmm, let's go ahead and do it again that same day. And also it was the day after my mom's birthday. So like I was like, I'm not doing it on her birthday, I'll do it the day after. And plus it was 4th of July weekend, which gave me some like leverage with work and taking time off and things of that nature. So that's kind of why I did it so far out. Okay.

But yeah. I remember I was uh when when you told me that you were getting it done, and after you got it done, and I I I text you probably like around like either you text me, I texted you, I forgot which one. But um beforehand, I was like, is insurance taken? Is your insurance taking care of this? And you said, Hell no. Right? And I I remember asking you, I remember asking you how much I was like, how much is this shit? How much is this shit, girl? It was $14,000. Yeah, you told me that price, and I said, Oh my God.

And that's only and that's only one set of surgeries.

I had to have an RC surgeries coming up. Was because I guess insurance wouldn't cover that because it's considered plastic surgery, is that right?

SPEAKER_01 10:05

So it does cover, depends on what you're getting. Yeah. So like I it wouldn't cover what I was getting, but for like my next round, if I wanted to go that route, it may cover part of it, but not all of it. And my surgeon doesn't do insurance. So if I wanted to go that route, I would have to go to another surgeon.

And so, like, for me, I'm just gonna just pay it and get it on out the way. I don't feel like dealing with surgery, like with insurance because there's a lot of like red tape to deal with insurance.

Yep. What was the most like what was the hardest part of recovery for you?

SPEAKER_01 10:42

It's not so much the pain. Like pain wise, I think like by day three, pain-wise was okay. Like, I I was I didn't really need my narcotics unless I was trying to like sleep and I would take some oxygen, go to sleep, whatever. The main thing for me is the the itching they do. Not tell you that. So they like a cast? Yes, like a cast. But like for me, it was the itching. And like they didn't tell me that I could use Vaseline around my like sutures and stuff. So my skin was like dry. Like I went last week to get my drains taken out. She looked at my stuff and she was like, Why is your skin so dry? She's like, Oh, we mustn't tell you to use Vaseline. I was like, Was it yeah, you didn't?

I can't use any like scar creams or anything till I'm a month out. So I'm still I can't use anything but Vaseline right now.

If you had to I'm just asking you questions because, you know, if you if somebody because I know I know a lot of people that have gotten like the the, I guess it's like, what is it, uh the surgery to like so a lot of people have gotten like gastro bypass or taking like GOP once and they have a lot of skin.

So this is beneficial for them when they're thinking about going down that route.

And like I said, there was a lot of things I didn't even know going into it that like if I can help somebody else know, you know, it make their recovery easier, I would definitely like them to know.

So if if you know, if you knew somebody that was going through this, I would would you say be prepared and make sure you know how much you're gonna be paying. I guess that would be like the big thing. Make sure you understand the recovery and get all the information that you can get.

And also make sure you have somebody that is there to basically help you move because you become immobile.

I want to say immobile, because I was like, I like day two, I'm like, every day I would try to go outside and Yeah, you would have to fucking coffee.

Yeah, I'll go for coffee or like I was like, I was like, I text, I text this woman and I said, hey, I was texting her damn it every fucking day. And I was like, hey, are you like what's up? What's going on? And also, just let me be clear, this is about her. I offered multiple times to take care of me down there and help her. Let's just put that out there.

I'm not leaving people hanging. I was like, I could bring the we I can pack up the dog and we can be down there for a week. Whatever. I don't give a fuck. But so I text her and I'm like, it's it's of course it's the morning time. And I'm like, hey, how you feeling? What's up? Are you resting? This goddamn woman sent me a picture of her in a car with some Dutch brothers. I said, What the fuck? Can you be drinking coffee? Yes, I can be drinking coffee. Can you be drinking coffee right now? She was like, Yeah, it's fine, fine. Doctor, doctor already said it's I said, Oh my gosh.

Yeah, so like that was that was it for me. Like, I didn't like so each day I would at least try to get out to do something. Like I didn't want to be crooped up in my house for like my recovery or whatever. So like that was a big thing for me. I was getting out to do something. Um, because like you have to walk every hour that you're awake or and like for me, I would just go out and and do something. And so it wasn't like I was going like in the stores and walking around or whatever. Like, I'll get in the car and like maybe go grab something really quick and then come back out. Like, I wasn't going out walking into like different stores and places and all that kind of stuff until like probably like a week out. Cause that's like I felt like okay, I I have stamina. But I did make a big mistake on like day two out of like complete

Costs Planning And Recovery Mistakes

habit. I was I was sleeping on the like the couch because I couldn't sleep, like I tried to sleep in my bed, like I had like a recliner and everything. Well, not crying up, like an inclined body pillow for me to sleep on my back. Uh and like it just wasn't comfortable. So luckily I have a recliner that like goes back and has a charging port and everything. And then I just I just slept down there for like a week, right? In my living room. And I was sleeping on the couch, and these kids came knocking on the door and they were like, hey, can we wash your car? And I was like, because I'm out of it. I'm like, huh? I was like, no, not right now, or whatever. Well, I also had to order some stuff from Sam's that I needed and I forgot all about before surgery. And so I'm just like grabbing this like case of like I grabbed the case of NVIDIA water, like the NVIDIA water, and I like tried to take it in the house.

Gone temporarily, and I was trying to get it in the house, and I got it in the house, and I was like, oh, that was that was that was a mistake because I really hurt really bad. Unless I didn't pop any of my sutures or anything of that nature, I was good, but yeah, that was a bit Jesus, man.

So what was the like so at what through the whole process and the recovery and everything? What surprised you the most?

SPEAKER_01 15:54

I think that what surprises me the most is that there's so much that they don't tell you. And there's so much that like for so for one thing, right? And it's so is it's so kind of like wishy-washy. So like I I was supposed to have compression garments to wear after surgery, right? Like a lot of things. Depends. So it depends on what you have, right? And so I come out of surgery and I'm at home, and like I go see my doctor the next day, and I'm like, hey, I didn't get any of my garments. He was like, Oh yeah, I don't want you wearing garments. And like I had already bought some garments before because she was like, Yeah, go ahead and get these off Amazon. I'm like, okay, why do you want me wearing garments? He was like, Well, it's just better if you just wear ace bandages. Ace bandages? So yes, I am wearing ace bandages for like a month. I can't wear anything else but that for a month. So, but then like, okay, cool. So I get my ace bandages, and I go to my like, so I have to get lymphatic massages, which they don't tell you about until like you have your pre-opose, like your appointment. And those are not cheap. Like, one appointment for an hour is like $145. So that's one thing. Like, surgery itself has one cost, but then like things after surgery have another cost. So just be just be cognizant of that. Um, and so I go there and she's like, wait, he told you no compression. I was like, Yeah. If she was like, No, you need like compression. So she sends me these things that I need to wear, and I go order them. They're not cheap either. Or whatever. And then it's just like so much like, like I said, like they didn't tell me I needed Vaseline, so I'm just like not using Vaseline and my skin's all dry and I'm itchy. Now that I'm using Vaseline, like I'm not as itchy. Like, yeah, the main thing now is just my sutures on my back are just tight. So like I feel tight on my back, but it's just stuff like that. Like you may hear one thing and then somebody's gonna say something else, and then like it it's just a lot. So yeah.

Okay. All right. Well, I'm happy that you you are feeling better, happy that everything worked out well. Um, happy that you're, you know, kind of getting back to the status quo of things and kind of just, you know, just getting back into everything. Um, you know, it it's always good to I I when I was I text her, I remember it was like a couple days after like the day after surgery, right? And I was talking about the podcast and stuff like that, and I was like, all right, like just just take the weeks, like whatever, take the weeks. She's like, nah, I'm good, I'm good. I can handle it. I can handle it. I'm not in much pain. And the next day, I was like, I was like, Lexi, you are literally a day out of surgery. Literally a day. I was like, you're a day out of surgery. Like, like, relax, man. Like, you relax, like you're a day out of surgery. This shit can wait. This shit ain't important, right? So you guys are important at listen, but anyway. Yeah, you are, but not really. Because she she is. And I can't, you know what I'm saying? Like, fuck you. Don't do that. So, you know, this shit can be on hole. I don't really give a fuck. Um, but like I said, I'm happy that you're getting back to the status quo and everything is working out for you and all that shit. So I am happy for that. Like, because you can't man, this is gonna sound crazy. You you can't hear companies talk like this. And I honestly don't understand how you can see Game Pass as a failure where you're where you're giving a person you pay a monthly subscription. I know people hate subscriptions, but for the amount that you pay, you you get to like this. You get a lot of shit, do you not?

They already they let their games go. They already let them go. They already let them go. So it's like, why, why bring it back now? What? You think that's gonna bring people back to your shit? No. That's not the way that shit works. Oh, yeah, you know what? These exclusives are really gonna get people back into Xbox. No the fuck it's not.

But I think it for me, well, for a lot of people, it's like, yeah, we use Game Pass, we use PlayStation Plus or whatever. And so technically, yeah, yeah, you aren't getting just a license of a game to use while you have those services there. But I think what makes it a big deal with the tube is that like if you purchase something like through the store, you pay your hard dollars, it can be gone. Like if they shut down the store or the game is gone, it's gone. I don't have that issue with Steam, like as I've had my account forever and I have games that Yeah.

Yep. So the the big thing with me for Steam is the constant sales that they have every year. Like I know when Steam has a sale, I know Steam has a sale. If it's just Capcom games, if it's just Atlas games, whatever. It can just be straight publisher sales. They're good sales, no matter what. Like they're they're good. You know what I mean? When Steam says, oh yeah, we got a sale coming, well, they're gonna have a sale coming and those prices are gonna show, right? I I do think that, and I I haven't had an Xbox or PS5. I haven't had an Xbox in years now. You know, I I think that's the biggest thing for me. Like, even I can you can get Game Pass on PC.

So I wonder if people I guess this is more of a people question, but do when you buy that game from Xbox or PS5, do you really own that digital game?
