Welcome And 500 TikTok Followers
SPEAKER_02Thank you, and welcome back to another episode of the Carolina Utaku podcast. I am Afro and I am here with my co-host Jaxie. Oh yeah, welcome back, you guys. Um, thank you for joining us. Um, I do kind of just want to start out and say we did hit 500 followers on TikTok. So that's actually a really good accomplishment.
SPEAKER_01Thank you guys.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, thank you. I'm not even gonna hold it. That's actually pretty sick. Um, you know, the shorts have been going well, and uh, you know, people are watching them and giving feedback. Some feedback good, some feedback bad. Who really gives a fuck as long as there's some people talking and having a conversation. Um, but you guys know how we start these off. We usually see what we've been up to lately, what's been going on, and then we usually get into our topic. So, Lexi, what have you been up to?
Travel Updates And Book Sale Plans
SPEAKER_01Uh nothing much. Um, just got back from a work trip from California. Did that, was out there for Monday, the Thursday. Um, really nothing much. I'm kinda excited this weekend. I'm going to like a book outlet sale where like everything's 70% off books. And lately I've been like getting back into reading and things of that nature. So I'm kind of excited for that. Um, but I haven't been up.
SPEAKER_02Nice,
Grief And The Reminder To Connect
SPEAKER_02nice. Um myself, my mom came down. Uh, you know, she was she was gonna come down anyway, but uh family issues came into play. Um, you know, uncle passed away. You know, it's it's seven, it was seven of them. Seven? It was. It's down to two. It's down to two. So it's my mother and one brother. Um, so uh, you know, uh, I will say rest in peace, Uncle Lewis. He was the oldest out of all of them. Um so uh yeah, rest in peace to him. And um I hope that uh I don't know. Like I said, I said this before, you know, talk to the people that you really don't talk to that much. You know, say hi, say I love you, um, say what you gotta say, and you know, just people gotta hear it. Because uh good.
SPEAKER_01You never know when it's your time to go. Like for instance, Dolly went away today. Yep, she rested peace. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's just crazy because like they say like four days ago she was talking about like how she still wanted to do a lot of stuff and accomplish a lot. Yeah, so apparently, yeah, even her family is were shot because apparently they thought she was just going in, you know, see the doctor. They weren't expecting her to like not return back home. So yeah, definitely, you know, say your I love you, give them, you know, give people their their flowers while they're here because you never know when it might be your last time talking to them. Um yeah.
SPEAKER_02Who was the other oh, homegirl from Heroes?
SPEAKER_01You know, I don't you know, I don't want to talk about that, but we can talk about that. So yeah, she did pass away. Rest in peace. It's just really random because it happened in my city. And she was in South Carolina? Yes, she was in South Carolina, yeah. Yeah, that is crazy. Um so everybody's been talking about that, like, what was she doing here? Yada yada yada. So apparently her boyfriend, her on or off boyfriend, um, his family and stuff is from here. So they were here visiting or whatever. And um, yeah, she passed, and apparently it was suspected to be an overdose because they found Norkan in the apartment. Um, but the toxicology report, I don't think it's came back yet.
SPEAKER_02So we'll have to see when it comes back. That's crazy. Um, but yeah, say, you know, say I love you too, your loved ones, man, you know, aunts, uncles, everything like that, because you never know what could happen. It is just the way that it is. Um, other than that, like I said, mom came down, got to spend some time with her, kind of get her mind off of it. You know, whenever my sister, my mom come down here, it's like uh kind of just a getaway from just everything else. Um, which is fine. I actually like that. Um, what else?
Marvel Fighting Game Issues And Gamescom
SPEAKER_02Uh I did buy Marvel Token, the fighting game, and ran into Okay, so God. Okay. So the game looks amazing. It looks great. It looks really beautiful and it it and it plays well now. I think there there there have been updates. But that first week was shit. If you had a PS, if you were playing on PS5, you're golden, you're straight. You were playing on PC, you were running into some shit. Um, I wanted to go into practice and I wanted to play as Blade. But every time I would always get an error, it would always error out, always error out. And looking online, I saw that people were running into this same issue. And this was during like beta. And I was like, what the fuck is going on? They didn't fix this shit. And you know, they did something on the background. I don't know what the fuck they did. But it's cool, it's working now, and you know, it's it's not bad. It's actually really, really nice.
SPEAKER_01Was it displayed that was having an issue?
SPEAKER_02Nah, it was it was a whole section of practice. Like any character that I chose, the practice would just, you know, run an error to me, and I was just like, okay. Um what else? I did watch that GameCon, GamesCon uh show today. Wasn't really a lot of indie stuff. Um, a lot of indie stuff. Uh we're talking about the Final Fantasy um remake that's coming out next year. And um The Witcher, The Witcher Remastered is actually going to be free.
SPEAKER_01If you already have it.
SPEAKER_02If you already have it. It's gonna be free if you already have it, which is actually pretty sick.
SPEAKER_01Um don't forget it's getting that final DLC too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So uh, you know, if you guys come up on that on a deal or something, you might want to cop that shit. Um what else?
Are Nerds Healthy Or Not
SPEAKER_02But um in this episode, what I want to talk about, I don't know what made me think about this, but it was over the weekend, and it could have just been with everything family-wise and stuff like that. But I started to think about like health and what mostly nerds and people that are into like the nerd culture, are they into the health? Like, are they healthy people? Because it's already this stupid stereotype that people that are into gaming, comic books, anything collectible-wise or anything like that, they live in their mother's basement in the dark and never go out and touch grass and get into the sun and don't work out or don't lift any weight. All they do is just drink fucking Dr. Pepper's all fucking day and eat fucking pizza. Now, I'm not saying that some of them don't do that, but you go to some of these conventions now, there's some pretty fit motherfuckers just walking around because they want to look good in their cosplay.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02So, so the the whole like stereotype of dude in, like I said, dude in basement, or like I can think about like the South Park episode when they were playing uh World of Warcraft.
SPEAKER_01Um, that's one of my favorite episodes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and they got like really fat, and like I can remember, I can remember Cartman literally yelling out to his mother, bathroom, bathroom, and his mother comes down.
SPEAKER_01So you know that's actually based on like a real person.
SPEAKER_02That ain't really happen.
SPEAKER_01That really happened. There is a guy that they used to call like, I forgot, he was a Star Part guy or whatever, but yeah, that it was referencing towards him, and I actually think he passed away like a couple years ago. I have to go back and look into it, but yeah, that that was uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's crazy. That's crazy. He but I I don't know if people still have that mindset, and maybe some people do, based off the comments that we get on some of our TikTok videos. Um but but one of the biggest things that I kind of wanted to bring up is like we know that we know that you should be healthy. You want to be healthy, you know, you can play video games, but kind of getting out, lifting some weights, walking for 60 minutes a day or 45 minutes a day can like make a huge difference.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, definitely can.
SPEAKER_02Like this walking pad that I have, I'm using this shit every day. Like I'm doing 60 minutes a day on a shit. Like I'm up here just walking and working. And, you know, I I guess when do you think that so let me ask you this.
Walking And Small Daily Movement
SPEAKER_02You know, you talked about, you know, you going through your weight loss and everything like that. What made you say, all right, I gotta, I gotta do I you know what? I think I gotta do something. Like you would like what was like, damn, I I really gotta do something about this.
SPEAKER_01If for me, it's a little bit different. So like for me, so I I guess I'll just go into the little story. So here's my little section to talk a lot that nobody really cares about. Whatever. But here. So like in 2014, I just got off a cruise. Um, and I come back home and I'm like sick. So I go to urgent care, they're like, oh yeah, you just have, you know, it was I forgot what it was. Something was going on my throat. And they're like, yeah, yeah, just take this, you'll be okay. Well, like that went away, but I was still feeling sick. I was still like I wouldn't eat, I would drink. Um, my vision was getting like blurry or whatever. I'm like, okay, something's not right with me, right? Like,
Diabetes Wake Up Call And Change
SPEAKER_01I I never felt like this before. And I was like, all right, I gotta do something. So I made an appointment to the doctor, I get there, and she's taking like my blood sugar. She's like, I think you may be diabetic. So I get there, taste my blood sugar. Yes, I am diabetic. I think it was like over 600 at the time when I got there. So immediately she's like putting on me on metformin and lantis. And so, like, because type 2 diabetes and stuff like that runs in my family, like I knew that was gonna be that was that was essentially my wake-up call because I didn't want to end up on insulin for the rest of my life, taking these pills, having all like the diabetic side effects. So that kind of kicked off my journey starting there. And like I've just been like on this journey ever since. So I'll just put it that way to put it simply, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Do you think what's the what was the I guess, what do you do personally to stay like healthy and
Staying Active After COVID
SPEAKER_02fit? Like what do you do personally?
SPEAKER_01So I really do need to get back into the gym. Uh PT's making me like be like, okay, I think like I think after I'm doing PT, I may just get a personal trainer and start doing that again. Um but um before COVID, I would like work out like three times a week doing like a combination of like cardio and like um different types of strength training. Um since COVID, like now, I mostly uh go walking um or um I bought a treadmill, um, so I use that. Um I have like the vibrational plates, um so I use that. And then I used to have a Peloton, but it really like it's not made for thicker people, so I I definitely return it that. But um I was doing that. I like to ride like bikes, like stationary bikes, but yeah, that's some of the things I do. Um besides like I don't necessarily like watch what I eat, it's more like the quantity of what I'm eating. Um I try to be more cognizant of what I drink. I don't try to drink like a lot of like sugar if I do like cut it and then I'll go to like water or like tea or you know, something less heavy uh for a while.
SPEAKER_02Gotcha.
Powerlifting And Olympic Lifting Journey
SPEAKER_02I I think I started like working out heavy. Funny thing is, my mom had me like working out with a trainer back when I was like in middle school. I can remember that. And then as an adult, I started getting into working out when I think it was 2018. My friend, a friend of mine named Denise here in North Carolina, she was already doing power lifting, right? And um, she was going to a gym in Raleigh called Spider Gym. It was just a powerlifting gym, and they had Olympic platforms there, right? So I go to the gym, sign up for the gym, I go, she starts training me. And while she's training me, I remember being on bench press and she was, I was like, I saw people doing like Olympic lifting. I saw them doing cleaning jerks and snatches. And I was like, what is that? I was literally like, I was like, what is that? And she was like, oh, that's an Olympic lifting. She was like, I don't know how to do that. And I was like, hmm, I want to do that. So I remember like going on the USA, I think Olympic weightlifting website, trying to find a black coach. I was, I was trying like, and I found one. I found John Spinny, right? And um, he kind of taught me how to do these lifts. And then I started doing the lifting so much, I actually started to see the results from it. Like I was going Monday through Thursday, and I was like doing heavy lifting. So I was getting, I didn't even know how to squat. Like I didn't know how to squat with a barbell on my back. I didn't. So because I was doing that every day, my squat got like to like 400 pounds. I was able to squat 400. Like at my at my peak, I was able to squat 400, right? Um, snatch, I would probably say was like two. And then my cleaning jerk, I want to say maybe like 250, maybe, maybe three. And when when I saw the results of everything that I was doing, I was like, oh shit, this is nice. And at that same time, I was I was working at Schwab, I was taking the Triangle Transit bus and I was still walking to work from the bus stop to work. So I was still kind of getting steps in every day, and I would do that walk from work to the bus stop and then, you know, take the bus home. So when in Olympic weightlifting, it was fun. So much fun. I actually did competitions, right? And I remember I had my first competition. It was at athletic at uh athletic lab. It was in Kerry at the time, Kerry, North Carolina, and my sister drove down to come see me and my and my first comp. Yeah. First comp, I got third place in my weight division.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, good job.
SPEAKER_02And honestly, it wasn't that many motherfuckers in the weight division anyway.
SPEAKER_01Um God dang.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't that many motherfuckers in the weight division anyway. But going to that competition, when I tell you guys, like, you guys can go online and see like strong fucking women that bodybuild and stuff like that, and they're strong. When I tell you, one of the strongest women that I have ever seen in my life, her name is Mo. Mo is a black woman here in North Carolina. She was the strongest woman I have ever seen. Like, she was, and her form was notch. Like, she was she was it, right? The thing was, John, John made a team, and had most of that team was women. Women kill when it comes to like olie lifting. They kill it and powerlifting too. But it's more, I think it's a lot more men in powerlifting than it is in like oly lifting like that. I think it might be kind of like, you know, same or same shit. But I've I've seen strong women. And I also say this I have definitely seen what lifting can do for anybody. Put I I don't give a fuck if there's a woman that says, I don't want to lift weight because I don't want to look manly. You better get the fuck out of here. That shit is going to work.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That shit is going to work like crazy. Get some squats in, work out three times a week. And then but in the Thursday and Tuesday, Thursday, get some car, just do a walk. You're gonna see a difference. You're gonna see
Diet Consistency Beats Workout Intensity
SPEAKER_02a difference. But the biggest thing that I've realized in when it comes to this, like when it comes to being a nerd into anime, into gaming, the one thing that a lot of us do while we're doing these things is eat. And we eat shitly. I don't even know if that's a fucking word, but we eat like shit, right? It's easy to work out, right? Working out is easy. The hardest shit is staying consistent with a diet. Yeah, that's the hard part. That's the fucking hard part because it's so easy to just go off and not like stay focused on that. You know what I mean? Like, you know that you have to get a certain amount of protein in. You know why you eat protein, eating more protein helps you stay full, right? It helps you stay full over time. So you're not eating a whole bunch of junk and shit like that. You know what I mean? It it's watching your calorie intake. You know what I mean? It's it's like there are so many videos of like people making recipes of high protein dinners, high protein snacks. It's it's it's a ton of resources out there. Like shit, you can ask ChatGPT to make you a whole workout plan if you tell them the workout stuff that you got and they make a plan, it makes a plan for you. You might have to alter that shit a little bit and kind of give a direction like, hey, I'm just starting out and all this stuff.
Get A Coach And Train Safely
SPEAKER_02I will say, if you want to do powerlifting and only lifting, go get a damn coach. Because the last thing you want to do is fucking break your fucking neck or have a bar fall on your head. That shit happens.
SPEAKER_01Trust me. That doesn't sound good.
SPEAKER_02No, it's bad. That shit happens. You don't wanna, you don't, you don't want to go into a uh a clean and you don't know how to position yourself in that clean. You know what I mean? You don't know, you you also want to know how to bail out of a lift the right way, not the wrong way. So if you know you get it up there, let's say you, you know, you do your clean and you're about to do your your jerk and you can't and you get it up there, but you know you can't hold that shit up, there's a way to bail out of it. You don't bail forward, you bail back, right? It's that's the shit that a coach will teach you. A good coach will teach you that. A good coach will get you on a workout plan to gradually get you up to lifting more weight. You know, find the coach, pay the money to do it. You know what I mean? Even if it's like I'm not the biggest fan of remote coaching. I actually like being there in the gym with the coach because they can give you the tips and the information that you need right there, right? But I will always recommend get a coach, especially for only lifting. Powerlifting might be a little bit different, but only lifting, strong man, all that shit, like get a coach. Find somebody that that wants to teach you. And then you can go ahead and do it yourself when you start to feel more comfortable, right? I know that some people, I know I'm talking a lot about this, but this is something that's like really inquiring. I know some people like say that well, you shouldn't, it's some motherfuckers out there, like when you're doing your workout, you shouldn't be wearing like knee sleeves and arm sleeves and stuff like that. Bitch, I'm old. I'm not fucking up my like I'm not fucking up my knees.
SPEAKER_01I'm not expecting that one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Motherfucker, I'm not fucking up my knees for uh a squat. I'm 35 fucking years old, man. I got knee sleeves on. What the fuck are you talking about? I gotta keep these motherfucking knees warm. Like, come on. Like, you know, stretching, learning how to stretch properly before the workout and after the workout, doing your accessory workouts, doing your planks, if you have um, I don't know, dumbbells, if you have kettlebells, you know, doing your accessory works, buying uh bands, buying rolling out your leg, like in your legs and arms and stuff like that. Like this all plays a part of it. You know, recovery is important when you when you start working out. That first, let's say you haven't worked out in a while, that first workout is going to whoop your ass and you are going to be in pain. You are gonna sleep like a fucking rock, but it's gonna feel good. But if you stretch before and after, you'll feel better. Like you'll you'll condition yourself to, you
Gym Anxiety And Starting Simple
SPEAKER_02know, get more mobility and stuff like that. And I think that's one of the I I push this to my family. If if my family listens to this or watch these clips or anything as a as a black man, be active, do some shit.
SPEAKER_01And it doesn't necessarily have to be to the extreme of him doing like exactly powerlifting. It can just do anything. Just just get up and move and do something.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. You can't like being, you can say you go to work and you come back and you had a hard day, right? You might have been kind of physical in that shit doing what you do work-wise, but go for a walk, man. Get the get the bones moving. You know what I mean? It's not, you never want to be, there's always this, this uh within people's minds of, oh yeah, I'ma I'm a I'm a you know what, I'm gonna start working out. I'm gonna start getting it done. When when you you can answer this. When do people start working out?
SPEAKER_01In January. Why are you waiting on the way to January?
SPEAKER_02Right. New Year's resolution shit, right? They be like in it for like the first three months.
SPEAKER_01It is just quiet as fuck.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. By summertime, that shit done, depending on where you are, right? It it's a and then I know a lot of people when working out at a public gym can be. Be intimidating.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Okay. It can.
SPEAKER_01It's not that bad. Depending on where you go. So, like, if you're a beginner, you know, planet fitness, there's a no judgment zone there, right? So, I mean planet fitness. I know. A lot of people hate planet fitness, but you gotta think about it for like, it's more designed for people who are starting to get into the gym and don't want to be intimidated by people like, you know, doing the most, um, as society does, you know. So I always recommend to start there, at least there, because not just that, but they also have like good workout classes. There's like a good like 20 or 30 minute circuit there. Um, but I mean, that's not gonna be your forever gym because eventually you're gonna grow out of all the the equipment they have there because it's lower in like weight. And so, yeah, eventually you will you will go elsewhere. But I think at that point when you're ready to go elsewhere, you will feel more confident in yourself to like, okay, I can go to a bigger gym now and and do more, learn more.
SPEAKER_02Um I I do think also here's the other shit too, right? I'm gonna put this shit out here. Ain't nobody looking at your ass. Facts. Ain't nobody worried about your shit. You know what I'm saying? The only this is gonna sound really crazy. The only people, the only people that get looked at at a gym are the motherfuckers that come in wearing certain shit or doing certain shit that they know is like attention grabbing. You're doing shit because you you want to get the attention. Other than that, half of the people, most of the people, are gonna have headphones on doing their fucking workout.
SPEAKER_01Tunnel vision. They just want to get their workout done and leave.
SPEAKER_02Right. It's it's in and out. Boom. So, you know, it it it you don't want to be that type of person to be like, I'm gonna go, I'm, I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna do it. Go do it. Like, I when
Home Workouts And Making Fitness Fun
SPEAKER_02I started working out, the reason that what made me start doing it, I looked myself in the mirror and I said, God damn, you are a fat piece of shit. I said that to myself and I was like, I gotta do something about this. I really, I was like, damn, you really have to do something about this. Because you don't want to be like a uh uh just a fucking fat piece of shit. Like you don't I'm just being serious, like you don't want to be that. You don't. Anything, any type of activity will help.
SPEAKER_01I mean, and and if you don't or can't go to the gym, I mean, there's ways you can work out at home. Excuse me. Um, because that's that's kind of how I started. Like I started working out. This is around a time where like Connect was popular on Xbox One, so they had like the Kinect game, so I would play those. Like there was like a Zuma one, I would do that one. Um, I think I had just dance just to like kind of get moving doing stuff. I mean, YouTube has some great workout videos. Like there's one I used to do called like walk at home, and you can just like walk and do all kinds of stuff to get your steps in. Um, but I mean, I mean, gym and you know, going to gym isn't for everybody. Not everybody wants to lift lift weights or you know, put on muscle. Um, and so you gotta find out also what do you like doing? What what's your goals? Um you gotta like you just gotta make it fun for yourself. So that was a big thing for me was playing games that like fitness into it that you know kind of got me up out of my seat, moving and doing different stuff. And you'll be surprised, like by doing that, you can start seeing some results, see you know, your face getting slimmer and things of that nature. And I think a lot of people have that mindset, Larry. I lost like five pounds, you know. I see the difference in my face, but nobody's commenting or anything of that nature. You gotta realize it takes a lot for people to notice.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Um, and to see like your progression. I I remember when I started losing like big amounts of weight. I I I noticed, but I didn't think anybody was noticed because nobody was really saying anything. Then like a couple of months went went by, and I remember I was at work, and there's this girl that worked on the third floor where I worked, and she was like, Oh my god, you look like one of my baby dolls. I was like, huh. She was like, Yeah. And it was just weird. I was like, okay. And then people were like, Oh, you're getting slimmer. What are you doing? Da-da-da-da-da-da. And all that kind of stuff. And for one, I am gonna be that person. Unfortunately, we live in a society that is like uh, you know, fat food. I wouldn't say fat food, but but you know, there's not a lot of love for like bigger people. So, like, yes, when you start losing weight, some people may like treat you a little bit better than like they wouldn't treat you when you were bigger. Like, people would be like, Oh, let me open the door for you, or like, hey, can I do this for you? Like, stuff like that. Like, um, but yeah, that's my little spill.
Aging, Family Loss, And Health Urgency
SPEAKER_02It I I think that you know, one of the just kind of like when I think about getting older, like I I I I guess I'll ask this like as a question. So as you have gotten older, right? And you've seen family go through stuff, you see family and all that stuff, how how has like your your age and you getting older changed the way that you see health? Like because when you're young, when you're young, you're like, I gotta worry about that shit, man. Fuck that. When you're older though, when you know what's crazy? When I Jesus, when I'm uh you know what the worst type of pain is? When you can't move your fucking neck. That's the worst pain, and you get that shit from when you sleeping. That's how I know I'm getting old as fuck. That's how I know I'm getting old as hell, right? And this was before I was like work, because I I've been working out like heavy. I have a garage gym. I made a lifting platform and all that shit in the garage and everything. And I have bumper plates and all that shit. And ever since I've been working out, doing this walk and shit, haven't really been running into like any like crazy like neck injuries. Yeah. But when I was when I was not working out, man, I be sleeping. Yeah, and I turn. I might turn and I'm like, oh, fuck, man. I fucked up my neck. Damn. You gotta have your hair like this on the pillow because you know you can't, like, it's it's all bullshit. When you get older, there are just certain things that you gotta take into inspiration.
SPEAKER_01So like for me, I know when I'm getting fat, it's like, or like I need to cut back on like my cards and sugar, is like I call them sugar knees. But they sugar. Like you'll be like walking up the stairs or like doing something when you're climbing, and like your knees will fucking hurt. They will hurt very, very bad. Um, that's when me. I'm like, oh, yep, nope, gotta come back. Or like for like when I was bigger, bigger, oh my leg will cancel crap in the middle of the night, and I'm just like, oh, well, this shit hurts. Oh, no, mm-mm. I gotta I gotta lose weight because this shit is not comfortable at all. Like you sleeve and you look like oh, okay. All right, yep, gotta go.
SPEAKER_02That that shit sucks.
SPEAKER_01Sucks so bad.
SPEAKER_02So what so like I said, what brought this on for me was, you know, my uncle passing and other uncles passing. Like, I I'll tell this story. I one of my uncles, my godfather, he passed away in a Zoom meeting and had a heart attack while he was working, you know, and he was home alone. He always talked, and this was like after Christmas, he always talked about going back into the gym and getting back to working out. He never did it. He never did it. And when I when I when I was thinking about this topic, I was just like, damn. I was I I'll say this. I was like, that motherfucker never did it. He talked, he talked about that shit all the time. Even when I was like working out heavy, and I would talk to him about it, about my competitions and everything. He was like, Yeah, man, I always gotta always gotta get back into that gym, man. He just never did it. When you, when that thought comes into your head, just go fucking do it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just do it. Just go fuck it.
SPEAKER_02Don't put it on the bad burner, just do it. Just go fucking do it. If you need to buy equipment, go on Facebook Marketplace and buy that shit used. Like, but just go do it. You know, it's it's it's it can be difficult to get into, but if you do it and you're consistent, you'll you'll see the difference and you'll feel the difference. Like my mom came and I told her I bought this walking pad. And funny story. So she went to Germany with my sister, and um my mom, she she walks, but she did a lot of walking in Germany and she liked it. And she had a she she was
Don’t Overdo It, Build Habits
SPEAKER_02she was impressed by herself because of how long and the length that she was walking, and she was like, I need to do that more. And I was like, fuck yeah. Like I want my mom to start doing paddle ball, pickleball, whatever the fuck it is, you know, just to be active and moving. But she saw the walking pad and she was like, Yeah, I'm gonna get one of these. And I was like, All right, I'm gonna hold you to that shit. And I know you listen to this.
SPEAKER_01You should have just bought her one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know. I know you listen to this. So when you're in that car, I know you hear me. But um, she her getting a walking pad would be nice. You know, I I just think that, you know, you just gotta, you just gotta do it. When the first start comes into your head, just go do it. So when it comes to, you know, can can you be a gamer, an anime fan, and still be fit?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yes, you can.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02You know, that's no question. You go to these cons, you see it.
SPEAKER_01You said it all the time. You see the guys like all buffed out. I know somebody that does professional cosplay, and like literally when they're getting into a cosplay has somewhat of a fit character. Oh yeah, they're in the gym getting ready, right, for this cosplay. Right?
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01So, yes, you can be a gamer or a nerd or whatever the case may be, and still be, you know, in shape. I think people have that misconception of us nerds and you know, gamers and and geeks and all misfits, right? That like that is our whole personality. That's all that we do. But no, we have other hit interests, we have other hobbies. Like, we're not just sitting playing games 24-7. Like, I yes, I game, or yes, I, you know, I like nerdy stuff, but that's not all that I like. That's not all that I consume. I I like traveling, love music, you know, um, I like being in my garden, outside in nature. Like, there's so much that we do. Um, like, stop having that misconception about us that we just are inside all day. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You can't do that. Can't do that. You know, I I will ask, you know, when when when should you, you know, kind of like I said before, stop saying when should you stop saying, you know, I'm gonna, I'm gonna get healthy, I'm gonna do it. Just just fucking do it. Don't think about it, just go.
SPEAKER_01Just do and then don't don't push yourself into it. What I mean by that is like don't start off on the deep end, you know, buying all this equipment, buying all this, you know, sports gear, protein shades, vitamins, all that stuff. Just start small. Yep. And just build your way up. Don't start trying massively cutting things out of your diet or whatever the case may be, because when you start doing that, you're not gonna wanna keep going because you're gonna have that feeling, okay, I miss this, or like I'm gonna fall to the wayside. And also, too, if something happens where you fall to the wayside, let have your little moment, you know, think about it, and then hop back on the horse. Like, don't let that get you down, just regroup and and start all over again.
SPEAKER_02Remember, I have a story when I was working at Charles Schwab, and this is before I started like, well, I think I was no, I wasn't working out then. Um, I did a green smoothie fast, right? I was doing well too. Like drinking a smoothie
Food Choices, Drinks, And Smoked Meals
SPEAKER_02for uh breakfast and lunch, and then I would have like chicken and rice in the day. You know, like shit. Nothing heavy, right? Once I fin I finished the smoothie thing, I think it was like a week or two weeks or something, and I was like, man, I did good. Tell me why my dumbass went and got like an egg and cheese bagel from this breakfast spot. And I went to go pick up a friend of mine at uh NC State, right? And took her to the store to go get some shit. And I'm sitting there in my car, and I was like, oh, you know that feeling? This is gonna start really disgusting. You know that feeling when you know you gotta throw up? Yes, and you and you're like, you're like, your mouth becomes dry, and you know it's coming up somehow, right? So I'm sitting in my car, windows down, and I'm like, oh shit, I'm gonna throw up in this parking lot. And I opened up my car door and I said, right? So go back, go back to her place, and I'm chilling, I'm just laying on the bed just chilling because I'm not feeling well. She started cooking pork and I said, Oh, I gotta go. I was like, I gotta go home. I was like, I gotta go. This smell is making me fucking sick. So I drive back home and I go straight to bed. My that was me being a fucking dumbass and not thinking like, oh my gosh, your stomach is not used to this after going on a green smoothie diet. Why the fuck would you eat something with so much grease, so much fat, and you expected your stomach to say, oh yeah, you good. No. No. Dude, that shit was bad. That shit was bad. And with even with my diet today, I don't drink juice anymore. I'm drinking fucking sparkling waters. Like, I'm drinking Waterloo's. Like, this is all I drink. Because I like the carbonation. And honestly, my favorite flavor is the guava one that they have, and they have this uh melody melon one that I bought off of Amazon. It's good. Good shit. Um, yeah, but all I drink is water. Uh most of my diet is like eggs, like steaks, but not like really like fatty steaks. Maybe like uh what is it? More more leaner steaks. I've been really into picante? Picante? Picante steaks. I don't know. Really into that. A lot of sweet potatoes, rice, uh, mixed vegetables, and not like that stupid fucking not that stupid like fr I mostly get frozen vegetables, right? But not that stupid fucking vegetables that have like the broccoli and the squash and like the carrots and stuff. Nah, I get like the, you know, like the Asian Midley type shit. You know, something different. Because I hate that simple shit. Um and I'm sm and I don't, I really don't eat a lot of fried foods. I smoke mostly everything. If you have the capacity to buy a smoker, get one. If you want like, if you're tired of like cooking, like I'm not the biggest fan of baked chicken. Nothing. But if I can smoke my chicken, I'm smoking my chicken every time.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Every time I'm smoking, I'm smoking everything. You know, I uh my I don't know, she'll I know she'll listen to this, but my my mother, she changed, she ended up changing her diet too, just because, you know, going to the doctor, doctor saying one
Helping Parents Adjust Diet And Lifestyle
SPEAKER_02thing. And me, my sister and I were like, well she told us this, my sister and I were like, I called my I called my sister and I was like, hey, we gotta, you know, after a while, when you have your parents and your parents are getting older, you kind of gotta start like, you kind of gotta start navigating shit. You know what I mean? It's like, all right, you can't drive no more type shit, you know? And the thing that we were uh telling my mother, we were like, all right, you need to cut back on the coffee. You know, you can drink the coffee, but you can't do the, you know, the three to four creams in it. You know, you can't do the Dunkin' Donuts every day. Make the coffee at home, try a different type of creamer, maybe with uh skin milk or something like that. Uh, you know, stay off of the fried foods, can't do the, you know, Ben and Jerry's like that. You might have to do the locale ice cream. We know it's gonna taste different. It might be a little bit more expensive, but you'll see the difference, you'll feel the difference, you'll start feeling better about yourself, and you know, you kind of just go from there. So this health shit is important, and the older you get, it gets more important. You know, um, yeah. It it's just, it's just one of those things. So, you know, is it enough to is walking enough or do you need to lift
Walk, Lift, Or Yoga Just Move
SPEAKER_02weights? You can do both.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You can do both. If you don't want to lift weights, you can walk. You can do Pilates, you can do yoga. That shit'll get you sweating. Yeah. That shit'll get you sweating. Um, but you gotta, you gotta do something that gets you active. Now, if I could recommend anything to anybody, lift weights. Lifting weights will, once you see those, those changes, you're gonna be like, damn, damn. I hate to say this. I hate to say this. This is gonna sound really crazy. But I think one of the I heard a I saw a video on Facebook and this and this uh person asked this other person, why do you work out so much? And the guy was like, because I like to see my I like to look good when I'm butt butterball naked. Okay. And when that and when I when I tell you, hey, that's that's a goodest, that's a good reason. That's a good reason. Can't knock that. That's a great, great reason. Um so you can be a nerd and do this shit. You can be healthy, you can watch what you're eating. You know, you can also the other big thing about being a nerd and shit and working out, the apparel. The shirts.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right?
SPEAKER_02People make gym shirts with anime shit on it all the time. That is the best shit. You can buy, I swear, you can buy a lifting belt with the good snap if you if you power lift, you know what I'm talking about. You got that good snap on the belt, and you can get it in design, you can get fucking my gin fajito on that bitch. That's sick. But, you know, the apparel for working out is dope too. It's dope, you know. Also, I've been changing my wardrobe. I think I'm gonna get rid of a lot of the t-shirts that I have. I've been getting into, I bought these heavy tees from You talked about that like a couple weeks ago. Yeah, but I actually got them. Like I got heavy T's. Shock aware. Yeah. So when I
Nerd Gym Gear, Style, And Closing CTA
SPEAKER_02say these bitches are heavy and they fit well, and the neckline is like thick, so it doesn't get all like wrinkly and stuff. Oh, I'm I'm buying, I'm buying like seven more. They were like $20 a shirt. I've never paid $20 a shirt in my life, but I get it. I get it. I get it. And they make heavy hoodies too, and the hoodies are like, I think like 7.5 weight. I was like, oh, fuck yeah. These are gonna be dope. Um, but yeah, I mean, just because you're a nerd doesn't mean that you can't work out, you can't be fit, you know, and you can you can be active for sure, for sure. Um we I was gonna bring up another topic. We can talk about that shit later. Um, I'll just say this. You know, uh wherever you work, I know some people deal with fuck managers, some that are like horrible, some that throw the team underneath the bus. You know, if you have a good manager, thank your manager for being a good manager because it's rare.
SPEAKER_00It's really rare.
SPEAKER_02Really fucking rare. Some of those motherfuckers are dumb as bricks. But anywho, follow us on all our social medias: uh Facebook, TikTok, uh, Instagram, everything like that. And um, we will talk to you guys in the next episode.
SPEAKER_00Bye guys.
